It’s ironic really, that I often cite Julian Fauth’s name when people ask me for examples of people I started writing about first, before anyone else had heard of them, who went on to become famous. Though he won a Juno for Best Blues Album and has been getting recognition from Maple Blues Awards and others, he’s one of the most self-effacing, unprepossessing people you could ever meet and would never regard himself as a celebrity.
But he’s also got a monster talent, crafting original songs that sound like they go back to the Tin Pan era. And that’s resulted in him holding longstanding regular weekly residencies at two west TO clubs: a Sat. & Sun. brunch show at Axis in The Junction and a Tues. night slot at Gate 403 on Roncesvalles.
Now historic and prestigious but lately moribund Jazz room The Pilot Tavern at 22 Cumberland Ave. in Yorkville has booked him for a weekly Thurs. 5:30-8:30 slot, starting on Valentines Day.
