A moment from WOODYSTOCK 2014: Woody Woodley, John Mays, Al Lerman and Joe Agnello -Facebook

\ KESWICK \

Doctors have told York Region resident and musician “Woody” S. Woodley that he needs to take time to rest and recuperate from medical conditions that have assailed him the past few years, so his annual WOODYSTOCK one-day benefit festival for lupus research won’t be taking place this year.

But you can bet when he takes the stage this afternoon at a jam in Keswick to perform with guitar great Neil Chapman —who’s been a mainstay at his festivals over the years— that he’ll be spreading the word that he’s now engaged in his own fundraising efforts to mount a spectacular return in 2017.

Woodley himself has been dealing with lupus for many years and for the past dozen has organized the WOODYSTOCK event to take place at a Newmarket Legion hall the last Saturday of summer in September to raise funds for the Lupus Ontario charitable organization.

Lupus is a chronic condition in which the immune system malfunctions, with devastating effects on sufferers. According to www.lupusresearch.org, most common complications and symptoms are extreme fatigue, arthritis, fevers, rashes and kidney issues. There’s currently no cure and while various drugs can help in management of the condition it can be severely debilitating at times.

The Blues & Rock concerts have featured stellar talents such as, in addition to Chapman, John Mays and Al Lerman of the Fathead multiple Juno-winning Blues icons, harp ace Jerome Godboo, north GTA locals Laura Lee & Tequila Rockingbirds, singers Johnny Wright and Donnie Meeker and many, many more.

Woodley has started an online fundraising campaign through canadahelps.org to make next year’s return of the event the best yet, hoping to raise $3,000 by the time the annual festival would normally take place at the end of September.  Tax receipts are being issued for donations of $20 or more.

He’ll be spreading that message this afternoon at CJ Barley’s in Keswick when he accompanies Chapman, who’s the special guest for the weekly 3-7 jam in the bar at 213 The Queensway South.
