Celebrate and support 17’s ‘East York Chronicle’ community mag with over 20 great acts tonight!
\ TORONTO EAST \
I’m usually loathe to use Toronto Moon story posts to promote my own shows when I’m hosting open stages or doing a guest appearance somewhere. I figure advertising in the Moon should be enough if it’s truly an effective vehicle for promotion, and most of the time this has definitely proven to be the case. Moreover, people subscribe to this publication to get an objective overview of what’s most interesting on the local music scene –not just to get my personal pr shoved in their faces.
But every now and then I’m part of a show that simply cannot be ignored precisely because it is so completely relevant to the live music scene. And my gala celebration tonight with over 20 East York area acts (most of whom, happily, are also Moon subscribers) is just such an instance.
The event is to celebrate the successful launch earlier this year of my monthly community newsmagazine, East York Chronicle (along with its www.eastyorkchronicle.com website) as well as to raise funds for me to get into a more suitable living and work space when I move at the end of the month, since my lease is up on my current premises.
Getting into a better space will not only aid production of the community monthly (which is also distributed throughout east Toronto in hard copy) but also will much abet the process of preparing Toronto Moon listings and stories every day –particularly because I have a new staff member coming on board to assist me with both endeavours. You’ll meet Michele O’Neill, a talented photographer and writer, if you come out to tonight’s show at Linsmore Tavern (1298 Danforth Ave., steps from the Greenwood subway station), which starts at 7 p.m. and runs till they throw us out.
You’ll also, for a mere $10 entry fee, get to hear some of the finest musical talents that East York has to offer (lineup below) as well as to meet East York celebrities (current City Council members, a new local MPP and more) along with other writers for the publication and a whole pile of community-oriented and music-loving people, plus a chance to win performer cd packages, a wonderful original painting and much more.
