I’m not used to thinking of entertainer, musician and radio/show host Jaymz B as a Folkie kind of guy. A longtime organizer of Jazz “tours” of clubs and special occasion galas such as Oscar Awards parties, he’s about as far away from Roots and Blues in my mind as you can get this side of Hard Rock .

But tonight, to celebrate the beginning of the week he turns 50, the eclectic ringmaster is bringing in a real panoply of Roots and Blues artists to perform at TO’s Hugh’s Room as part of his “My Favourite Folk” show starting at 8:30.

The evening features two Juno winners: hugely versatile guitarist Tony Quarrington and Blues tyro Julian Fauth. It also includes a rare TO performance by “the Frank Zappa of Canadian music”, Joe Hall.

Other acts include Heather Luckhart, Tom Parker, Sahra Featherstone, Alex Pangman and Scarlett Jane. Cover is $25.
