\ TO EAST \

As we first told you just about three years ago now, Linda Lavender is an eclectic songwriter who describes her original music style as “Folkgrass,” which sums it up about as nearly as you can get for an artist with a wide range of styles and approaches at her command.

With Country-Blues style originals like “Lovin’ Me” and resonances of Tin Pan Alley on some numbers, she can captivate on more tender moments or exhilarate when she or one of her accompanists (which regularly includes guitarist Sam Sharkawy of the Mediterranean Stars —with which group she herself often sits in) gets a jig-like rag going that makes not tapping your toes impossible.

I caught up with her last night at a particularly awesome edition of the Stir It Up Sundays open mic at Relish and am pleased to report that she’ll be back there at 2152 Danforth Ave. (a block east of Woodbine) tonight as the 7-9 songwriter showcase act.  There’s no cover and the tapas menu is as much of a delight and reason to drop by as the high calibre of the nightly music.
