Musicians will gather at two events this weekend to pay tribute to the late Gary (Mo’ Kauffey) Wickizer, who passed away Monday after a battle with cancer.
Mo had been booked to perform at Moonshine Café in Oakville on Friday, March 18, so the club at 137 Kerr St. has now booked popular Blues artist Alfie Smith, who knew Kauffey quite well, along with Kent MacMillan, to do a tribute to Mo’ and, according to the Facebook event blurb, “generate some funds to help Mo’s wife Rose in this difficult time.” Joining Kent for his set will be Peter Turpin and Scott Fitzpatrick and it’s expected other musician friends will put in an appearance and perform.
On Sunday, a group of players will assemble at The Woolwich Arrow in Guelph (176 Woolwich St.) from 2-5 to honour Mo’. It appears that MacMillan will be hosting this event, which sounds like it’s being organized in an open stage format.
