Roug-‘ing it for a good cause
/SCARBOROUGH/
Pop Roots duo Social Potion have impressed a lot of people over the past couple of years with their melodic, catchy tunes that combine elements of Country, Rock and Pop. But they’ve also impressed me, as I told you last year about this time, with their personalities and passion for using their music to make a difference in the world.
Again this year they’re donating their time and talent today to help raise awareness and funds for an organization that stewards the Rouge Valley Conservation Area urban park. If you follow the postings on Twitter and Facebook made by “SoPo” (as fans and friends call the band) members Carmen Toth and Aaron Jones, you’ll also know this isn’t just a passing fancy, but part of a commitment to making a better world that in halcyon days used to be a hallmark of what being a public performer is all about.
They appear at the park, at 1749 Meadowvale Rd. in Scarborough, doing a couple of sets of originals and covers from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. as part of an annual fundraiser called Ride For The Rouge (this will be their sixth annual appearance at the event), at which participants are encouraged to ride a bike or blade or hike the trails of the park starting at 10 a.m. Admission is a donation to the park and includes a BBQ lunch.
It’s supposed to be a beautiful day for being outdoors and it’s hard to think of a better way to start it than to head on over there, assist a worthy cause that helps the planet and enjoy great tunes and a fresh air picnic.
