\ TO WEST \
I have not yet had what by all accounts would be the absolute pleasure of hearing young indie-Swing songwriter Denielle Bassels perform, but those who have only have good things to say about her.
According to fellow songwriter and music promoter Beverly Kreller of HOTCHA!, “Bassels’ commanding stage presence and swinging band will stop you in your tracks and immerse you in her stories, drawing inspiration from the early 1920’s to the modern day.”
Critics seem to agree as the song “Cool Cool Water” from her 2013 EP Gypsy Summer won Grand Prize in the Jazz category of the international John Lennon Songwriting Competition.
Jaymz Bee, host of a Jazz show on Jazz FM 91.1 and a veteran concert/event organizer on the scene, is a big fan and has commented about Bassels that “there are few singer-songwriters in North America as original and refreshing,” calling her “a star on the rise.”
She’ll put that to the test tonight at Lula Lounge in west TO as she releases her debut album, What About Wool Wishbags, backed by a nine-piece band with at least one special guest appearance also confirmed.
The show in the room at 1585 Dundas St. West, for which admission is $20, gets underway at 7:30, with doors opening at 6:30. Dinner reservations guarantee seating, a press release about the event notes.
