Tonight you can help ensure the Beat goes on
>>> Although famously known as a poet and the host of the weekly Tuesday night “Howl” radio show on CIUT 89.5 FM, Nik Beat is also a musician and songwriter whose Tyranny of Love band kicks ass. Although he hasn’t performed much with the group since the passing of the love of his life and musical partner Linda Mercer just three years ago this summer, he does occasionally pick up the guitar at open stages. He also recently emceed the March 28 Springfest multidisciplinary arts show put on by Pete Otis’s SongTown and poet Sheila Horne at Black Swan, which combined visual art displays, poetry and lots of live music. He also attends a ton of local music shows.
Beat does a lot to help promote local talents, bringing on at least one musician for each episode of the show, so he performs an important service for what I’m sure is very little pay. CIUT, like most campus stations being perpetually short of funding, relies on public donations to keep shows like “Howl” on the air. Tonight you can help ensure the show keeps going by calling in during a special fundraiser edition. Beat says he hopes artists will donate but, more importantly, will call in at 416-946-7800 to tell people what the show has meant to them. So do it! -Gary 17, http://www.torontomoon.ca
