Marshall Dane corralling plaudits for new Country album
\ETOBICOKE SOUTH\
A Country Pop (or “New Country” if you prefer that rather silly term) songwriter with serious guitar and piano chops and substance in his catchy tunes, Marshall Dane is long overdue for the breakthrough that seems to finally be happening since release of his latest album, One Of These Days, earlier this year.
The longtime weekly Tuesday feature at Roc’n Doc’s in Port Credit, who tonight appears at Timothy’s Pub on Brown’s Line in Etobicoke (and tomorrow night opens for the band Raintown at Hugh’s Room in west TO), was recently featured in an interview in Cliché Magazine following release of a video of one of the album’s tracks, “Alcohol Abuse”.
That song also had a rave review from Cashbox Magazine, which calls him “a Canadian treasure” and noted his “clever rhyming patterns and a flurry of words that keep you listening trying not to miss a thing,” and the track is currently getting spins on Country 107.3 FM as well as rising of a couple of internet Country music charts.
I’ve been a fan since first hearing him about 15 years ago when, the then dewey-eyed young artist was just starting his run at Roc’n Doc’s and released a couple of eps and a cd, Weapons Of The Future, that contained catchy but lyrically strong songs that I still play at events when I go into dj mode, such as “Sell The Truth”, “High Again” and “Still Alive”.
He performs 8-12 tonight at the cozy club at 344 Brown’s Line (no cover) and does his opener set tomorrow at Hugh’s (where cover is $25) at 8:30.
