\ TO EAST \
As I mentioned in an article last year and on previous occasions, Country-Pop combo The One Shot Band fronted by songwriter and singer-guitarist Rory Cummings is a highly entertaining act that in my view should be performing a whole lot more.
While that’s not easy to organize, since several of the members of the six-piece version have busy lives and can only arrange to all get together rather occasionally, the new trio incarnation of the show is fortunately a little more readily assembled for shows like a benefit appearance earlier in the month and tonight’s 7-9 gig at Relish in east TO.
I’m a big fan of the tunes that Cummings co-authored as part of his Redhill Road group that played Country bars across Ontario for many years starting over 45 years ago and happily several of the ones I like best, such as “This Is Just All Right” and “Honey Harbour” are often included on the song list performed by the trio.
The three-piece version of OSB also includes longtime Redhill collaborators Dan Shields on second guitar and Jim Bird on bass, with all three combining to produce luscious, catchy harmonies on originals and on covers by melodic Pop greats like Buddy Holly.
There’s no cover for the 7-9 show in the bar and tapas eatery at 2152 Danforth Ave. at the corner of Cedarvale Ave. a block east of the Woodbine subway station. And if you’re inspired by the performance you can always stick around afterwards for the clubs awesome weekly karaoke show —one of the best you’ll ever attend anywhere.
