I can’t really tell you anything about the contents of the cd of originals being released tonight by multi-genre songwriter and singer Valerie Shearman, because the promotion for the event has been somewhat inept.

But being well familiar with Shearman’s undeniable talent and her various previous releases spanning Jazz, Country and Pop, I feel pretty confident in asserting that the Spirited Lady album is bound to be worth checking out.

Tonight’s release show with her Dreamcatchers band takes place in an odd choice of venue: Smilin’ Jack’s at 3482 Lawrence Ave. (at Markham Rd.) in Scarborough, where the crowd is likely to be more interested in the Stanley Cup hockey game than in her event. While the show is scheduled to start at 9, I’d bet it won’t get underway till after the on-ice contest.
