Elana’s hope shines for all the world on new vid | TorontoMoon.ca 200810Mo | Shows for Monday, August 10, 2021

Elana Harte screen cap from ‘All The Love In The World’ video

A passionate believer in the power of love and connectedness who puts her actions where her heart lies, Elana Harte has been someone whose regular activities have been curtailed more than most during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

But that hasn’t stopped the intrepid multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and shows presenter from continuing to explore her creative journey.

As we told you last month, she now presents a bi-weekly online showcase series, The Musical Bowling League, featuring some of the talents who have previously shone for years at her M Factor and M Factor Redux series at various rooms in Toronto’s east end.

She’s also been busy in the studio it turns out, and today launches a video for a new single she’s put together, “All The Love In The World,” that is posted on YouTube, with an audio soundtrack also available for streaming and purchase on her website store.

The video (and audio track) is an engaging response to the new realities imposed by the pandemic protocols.  In April she posted an online request asking people to send her footage of empty streets and other COVID-19 related scenarios.  She received footage from around the world and features some of it in the video as “a commentary about how our current global issues are making us feel anxious and alone,” her description says.

The fact that composition and production of the song was entirely completed in Elana’s basement studio contributed to the thematic vision of the song, she says, as COVID-19 restrictions made it impossible for her to interact or record live with other musicians or producers.

The result (which also incorporates the socially distanced directorial talent of Anna K. Verdillo, Jen Benton on vocals, strings, piano, and drums and with longtime musical partner Lucio Agostini on guitars) is smooth, sultry and uplifting but with touches of melancholy.

The piano reflects the mournfulness of empty streets in places, yet a Latin/Worldbeat percussion and choral arrangement bring an upbeat surge that persists and gives us hope things will change.

When Elana sings the catchy title phrase and the chorus (Tell me what to say that’s going to make that’s gonna make it righter / Tell me what to say that’s gonna make it lighter / Tell me what to say that’s gonna make it brighter) it’s stirring but in an intimate, natural way.

The international feel to the beat and musical blend mirrors the fact that the scenes of empty streets used in the video come from all across the world.   It also suggests —along with the fact that the video and audio are titled as the “English version”— that the tune is being released, or could be with slightly different sounding lyrics, in places far and wide.

No doubt it will be a welcome addition to the playlists of many people from diverse places.
