Hump Night Blues rides bumpy road to new location tonight | TorontoMoon.ca 180502We | Shows for Wednesday, May 02, 2022

Julian Fauth on keys with Dave McManus on bass in 2015 -GARY 17

\ TO WEST \

It’s been a bumpy road over the past year for the weekly Wednesday Hump Night Blues show hosted by Dave McManus and George Baumann.and their Hump Night Blues Krewe combo.  It was a year ago this month, after all, that the room where the pair had originally started it in 2015 was sold and converted to other uses and the event was cast adrift.

After an hiatus of six months, however, Dave ended up relocating it last November to Axis Gallery in Grill, with which he had several years of history putting on successful shows going back at least twenty years to when it was pretty much the only room in the Junction area offering live entertainment.  For a long time, even as other spots came and went, it was the go-to place in the area

Alas, the room has been undergoing profound changes since a new owner took over last year and it now seems determined to abandon its role as a destination venue in the area.

170520 Support the MoonA few weeks ago Dave announced that the event, which features the house combo with a stellar weekly guest, was being cancelled after the March 21 edition.  The room also, btw, no longer features Juno-winning Blues songwriter Julian Fauth for Saturday and Sunday brunches —weekly events that had pretty much defined the place for well over a decade.

Fortunately, even as the Axis spins its wheels, there are other rooms picking up the slack, one of which is La Rev (aka La Revolucion) Mexican eatery at 2848 Dundas St. West practically at the corner of Keele Street.  And tonight Dave and George are resuming the weekly 8:30-10:30 Blues show there with none other than Julian as the special guest.

There’s no cover and I’m told the food here is really interesting and prices are quite affordable.

Hump night still rolling moved to third location tonight

\ TO WEST \

It’s been a bumpy road for the Hump Night Blues jam hosted by Dave McManus and George Baumann over the past year.  It was a year ago this month, after all, that the room where the pair had originally started it in 2015 was sold and converted to other uses and the show cast adrift.

A few weeks ago Dave announced that the event was being cancelled after the March 21 edition and the room also no longer features Juno-winning Blues songwriter Julian Fauth for Saturday and Sunday brunches —weekly events that had pretty much defined the place for well over a decade.
