Toronto based guitarist / singer-songwriter Jake Chisholm is set to release his new cd, Diamond In A Coalmine at Dakota Tavern on April 11. Inspired by classic Blues, Soul and Rock, Chisholm’s tasteful yet intricate guitar work and songwriting evokes vivid and shameless tales of love, lust, and lessons learned.
An in-demand session player on the TO Jazz and Blues scene, Chisholm earned a reputation as a talented young vocalist/guitar player. The founder and leader of the popular Blues band Jake & The Blue Midnights, which performed numerous club gigs and at festivals around the country, he went on to become a busy sideman backing Blues artists including Julian Fauth, Paul Reddick, Raoul and the Big Time, and Jerome Godboo.
[See www.jakechisholm.ca for more background.]Reprising his role as a dynamic front man, Chisholm breaks out of Blues convention with his new album. Featuring seven originals and two covers, each track on the CD is generous with infectious guitar hooks and gritty vocals from Chisholm, fat bass lines from Chris Banks, and heavy pulsing grooves from drummer Sly Juhas. Jay Danley provides additional support with the tambourine and maracas.
With thoughtful, creative and powerful interpretations of the Blues, Diamond In A Coalmine is a testament to his skills as an exceptional songwriter, masterful guitar player and charismatic front man, while also paying homage to his musical influences.
The Dakota show at 249 Ossington Ave. starts at 10 and admission is $10 or $15 to get a copy of the disc.
