Enter The Haggis today -WEBSITE PROMO SHOT

\ TO WEST \

It’s closer to 20 than 15 years since I last saw Celtic Rock band Enter The Haggis play live and in that time the group seems to have come and gone and come back again to the public eye a few times.

As I wrote in my last article about them here, almost exactly six years ago, I had actually assumed the bagpipes-fiddles-and-Rock-guitar quintet was extinct until their appearance then at Hugh’s Room, where they return tonight.

But all along they’ve been doing a lot of touring, appearing regularly at festivals and venues in the U.S. and Europe more so than in mainstream Ontario “wing circuit” bars these days —as they used to in the 1990s and early Naughties when I last saw them.

The band has continued to record as well as perform live and in fact, according to the website promo quoted for tonight’s 8: 30 show in the room at 2261 Dundas St. W., they’ve now released ten albums including last year’s Broken Arms.

I’m assuming, of course, that this is still the same five guys we wrote about many times in TorontoMoon’s precursor publication, to-nite including an article from 2002 by Mary Armstrong (writing as Mary O’Grady, lol) outlining the various talents and contributions of members Craig Downie, Brian Buchanan, Trevor Lewington, James “Seamus”Campbell and Mark Abraham.

It’s possible some members have changed —particularly since back in 2014 they at least briefly, for some reason, tried changing their name to Jubilee Riots and redefining their style of music as “Northern Roots Rock.”  Fortunately that seems to have gone by the boards and the group can be expected to live up to its rep’ and provide, as Mary Armstrong described it in 2002, an “elevated” experience mixing Celtic Roots and Rock ‘n’ Roll sounds with exuberance and glee.\
