Warm and passionate Folk-Blues/Country-Rockabilly songwriter Roger Zuraw is becoming famous among his friends the past couple of years for bemoaning the ravages of getting old. But I’m starting to think the laddie doth protest too much!
For while the challenges of an aging body and a slowing mind are real enough, this particular old coot (as he habitually calls himself) has plenty of reasons to be happy and he not only knows it, he shows it!
For one thing, his new cd of originals is being very well received and he’s also starting to get more gigs at clubs where audiences appreciate his depths of experience and heartfelt honesty.
And wasn’t that Roger beaming as he bought his first Senior’s Metropass the other day and immortalized doing so on Facebook? You bet it was! And the bubbly tone of his promo for his birthday party gig tomorrow night at the eZone (120 North Queen St. at East Mall) in Etobicoke is likewise positively giddy with delight. Referring to him as “Pops”, the show poster asks “Who knew Pops wasn’t 65 yet?”, blatantly exuding good cheer.
I expect, in fact, that he’ll be beaming all night Fri. From the 7:30 start till the 11 p.m. wrap, as I know a lot of his friends will be on hand. Peter Solmes will also play and don’t be surprised if a surprise musical guest or six also end up doing a tune or two. 17
Sounds great Roger - will drop by if I can.
